Screen shot of a Star Trek episode showing the use of an original chromolithograph of Jupiter by Étienne Léopold Trouvelot. The original drawing was done from observations from the U.S. Naval refractor telescope, so the red spot in Trouvelot’s original shows oriented above the center. This picture, as framed by the set decorator or collector (could the owner have been Roddenberry himself?), has the legend obscurred by the matt, so the spot is showing oriented the way we see it in modern telescopes.

Purchase beautiful reproductions of all of Trouvelot's prints at Museum of Jurassic Technology
